Student Welfare Activities
The students are provided with facilities like Library, Hostels and Health Centers in each campus. The University Computer Centre located at Rajendranagar is equipped with latest technology, hardware, software, CD ROM, e-mail and internet connectivity catering to the needs of the University in education, research, extension, administration and accounts.
Extra-curricular Activities
NCC
Every year around 350 students of agriculture faculty were enrolled under NCC. At the main campus Rajendranagar of the University, an equestrian unit of the NCC with several horses was established two decades ago and the personnel from the NCC wing of Indian Army were posted permanently to manage the unit.
The Unit has provided excellent opportunities for students of the University to get trained in equestrian events and participate in National and International level equestrian competitions. The contingent of students who are participating in equestrian training are being deputed to compete the National Level Equestrian Competition held during the Republic Day Celebrations in New Delhi every year.
The cadets also were imparted basic military training. Every year around 20 `B' and `C' certificates are awarded to the cadets.
NSS Special Camps
The colleges have well established NSS units and the volunteers undertake technical service to the farmers, besides undertaking other activities such as tree plantation, AIDS awareness, blood donation, road laying, literacy programme, consumer awareness, health camps etc.
NSS volunteers of Colleges conduct animal health camps every year and treat gynaecological cases, medical cases, surgical cases.
NSS volunteers of Home Science Colleges participate in activities on watershed management, wasteland development, health and sanitation. Health camps are conducted besides educating the rural population on the importance of immunization and good sanitation practices.
Under regular activities of NSS, the volunteers involve themselves in cleaning the campuses and participate in the 'Pulse Polio' and 'Janmabhoomi' programmes.
Student Placement
The University decided to establish Placement Cells attached to individual colleges so as to assist graduating students to find gainful employment. These cells are now functioning in eight teaching campuses. These cells are kept under the charge of a faculty member of the college, who assists the students to access information on opportunities for higher studies both within the country and abroad. The pertinent catalogues, announcements and newspapers are procured and made available to the students. A compendium of students with Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees during the last five years has been prepared and is being made available to organizations interested in recruiting prospective students. Several organizations approach the Associate Deans of Colleges for conducting campus recruitment and the college Placement Cells are providing the needed assistance to conduct campus interviews and written tests.
Private agencies involved in selecting suitable candidates for higher studies abroad, are also making presentations for the benefit of students with the assistance of Placement Cells functioning in the colleges. Several students have been benefited from this facility of Placement Cells and have explored opportunities for employment and higher studies abroad.
Academic Excellence
The University has ranked among the top two in the country, ever since the ICAR introduced the system of nation-wide admissions through an All India Competitive Entrance Examination. During the year 1998-99, 79 students of the ANGRAU got qualified in the above test (largest for a single University) and among the colleges the Agricultural College, Bapatla and College of Agricultural Engineering occupied a place of pride.
A large number of students have been selected for Central Civil Services and are holding prestigious positions in international organizations such as FAO, World Bank, USAID, ICRISAT and VOA.
