Objectives / Mandate |
Enhancing the Standard of individuals in general and rural families and communities in particular through Teaching, Research and Extension actives Empowerment of women and girl child in rural and urban households through self-employment, service support to industries and communities that would help them to become better resource managers and contribute towards national development. |

Professionalism in Home Science Education
Education as a tool of social transformation has been a crucial parameter in educational discourse. Even though the paradigm of development has undergone vast changes during the last few decades, its linkages with education form the nucleus of all of them, more so for girls’ education. Choosing the right career oriented professional education is imperative for the present day generation to meet the future challenges. Home science education stands first in the line to offer various courses to mould students into perfect individuals with profound human values .
The Faculty of Home Science gives personal attention to each student and records their regular progress. It has also been interacting with various industries, organizations and line departments continuously, with a view to provide excellent career opportunities to students after completion of their degree requirements.
Based on the present day demand, a highly professional four year degree programme was introduced in the year 2000.Core courses of the five disciplines are offered during the first two years of UG programme followed by specialization in any one area, offered by five disciplines during the next two years. The College has excellent library and laboratory facilities, infrastructure facilities to organize class practicals with major emphasis on hands-on experience,

A separate campus (existing campus) for the college was planned in a 25 acre area on Bapatla – Karlapalem road provided by the Panchayat Raj Department and the foundation stone for construction of the building complex was laid by Dr.N.T.Rama Rao, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 24-02-1988. The college buildings constructed at a cost of Rs.46.45 lakhs were inaugurated in the new premises on 5-5-1994 by Sri K. Jana Reddy, the then Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture of Andhra Pradesh and the college was shifted to the new buildings in May, 1994.
CAD courses in each discipline is an added advantage to the students . Faculty with doctoral studies and reputed background train the students, with personal attention.
The College of Home Science , which is one among the two faculties of ANGRAU established in the year 1964 with five departments ,started the PG programme in the year 1968 and PhD programme in the year 1978.

Discipline of Foods and Nutrition : offers “Nutrition and Dietetics“ as it’s specialization for two years. The students can work as Dietitians, Nutrition & Health counselors, Medical Transcriptionists, Researchers in Industries, and establish Nutrition Clinics.

Discipline of Resource Management and Consumer Sciences: Offers specialization in the area of “Interior Design” . Discipline of Human Development and Family Studies : the specialization area is “Organization & Management of Eearly Childhood Programmes” . The students can choose their career as Researchers, Family counselors, Counselors in special education, Officers in the State Dept’s of Women & Child Welfare.

Admissions are open to those who have passed intermediate with any one of the combinations of Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Mathematics. The Programme was delinked from EAMCET from 2000,
The present intake is 80 students per batch which is likely to increase to 100. |

POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME |

Entry into PG programme is based on entrance examination. Students who get admission into PG programmes have the benefit of a monthly stipend of Rs .1800(20months) for M.Sc and Rs 2000 (25 months) for Ph.D

CENTRE OF ADVANCED STUDIES |
|
| |
In view of the out standing quality of work being carried out by the department of Foods and Nutrition, it was elevated to the status of Centre of Advanced studies (CAS) in 1994, the first of its kind in Home Science in all the State Agricultural Universities in India. The CAS headed by a Professor cum Director was established to serve as a national resource and advanced training centre for the faculty staff of other SAUs in the field of Foods & Nutrition .

ACADEMICS |

STAFF COMPETENCE: The staff of the faculty is specialized in their respective disciplines. Most of the staff members are doctorates and have undergone professional training on various thrust areas in different parts of the country and utilize the inputs of training to great advantage in their teaching and research activities. A few have also undergone training abroad. Staff have published papers in national and international journals and completed over 40 research projects and many are in progress.
LAB FACILITIES: All the five disciplines of the faculty have well equipped labs to enhance the skills of the students use their knowledge in practical applications or field situations.
ADVISORY SYSTEM: Each staff member is assigned a set of students to provide needed guidance and counseling in academic issues besides attending to the general welfare of the students.
LINKAGES : The disciplines of Home Science have sustainable linkages with major line departments . NGO’s, Voluntary Organizations, Government departments , institutions for strong professional exposure to staff and students. Interfaculty linkages are through supporting courses for UG and PG , being offered by Agricultural faculty of the university.
LIBRARY FACILITY: The students have access to both central library located at Universtiy campus and library located at College of Home Science, Saifabad. The libraries are well equipped with latest books and journals with internet and Xeroxing facilities.
COMPUTER LABS: The students have access to two computer labs for hands-on experience. During the course of study students excel in basic computing techniques and multimedia , which enhance their competence in computer applications.

PLACEMENT CELL: Provides Guidance and counselling required for higher studies and vocational choice. It also enlightens students on appropriate available job slots. The cell explores the career opportunities for Home Science graduates and post graduates with government , NGO’s ,National and International organizations, industries etc..
HOSTEL FACILITY: Hostel with all the basic amenities is located with in the college campus Saifabad, Hyderabad. It has two dining halls , a well designed and equipped kitchen, solar water heater , recreational facilities etc. to make the hostel cozy and comfortable.
GYM CENTRE: Healthy personality gives way for better social and all round development.To help the students develop fitness for performing efficiently at every step, a Gym centre equipped with latest equipment that helps in maintaining good health and personality of the individual is an asset for the students.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: It was started in the year 1974 with an intent to provide opportunity for the ex-students of the college to have interactions with each other and to involve in developmental programmes of the college. |

COMMUNITY WELFARE |

COUNSELLING CENTERS: The faculty started diet counselling in Foods and Nutrition, Crèche, Nursery, LKG and UKG for the benefit of the children and counseling centers in Human Development and Family Studies., Consumer clubs, Consumer guidance and Counselling cell and Floral craft production unit in the department of Resource Management and Consumer Sciences.
VILLAGE ADOPTION PROGRAMME: Staff as resource persons attend and offer trainings , lectures, consultancy services and conduct demonstrations in an adopted village for the development of the rural folk.
CERTIFICATE COURSES
The faculty offers short term certificate courses to those candidates with tenth standard qualification and above who are eligible to get admitted to certificate courses. The following courses are being offered.
