Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College was established in 1961 as the third Agricultural College in Andhra Pradesh to cater to. the educational needs of Rayalaseema. The College is located in Tirupati at the feet of the sacred Tirumala hills in an area of 370 acres. The College is situated in the temple town ofTirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Located at seven km in the western side of Tirupati on Tirupati- Chittoor highway stands the college amidst picturesque surroundings with the seven hills of Lord Venkateswara as the back drop. The College is easily accessible by road, rail and air. The airport is at Renigunta, 20 km away from the campus. The geographical co-ordinates of the College location are 79° E longitude, 13° N latitude and 182.9 m altitude above MSL. It has grown in many folds since its inception and has a very good academic record with excellent faculty. At present the college functions in three floors of the main building apart from Agricultural Engineering department, library, green houses, fields, gardens, -hostels etc.

2. HISTORY

1. 1961- The College Was established on 21st October 1961 and introduced B.Sc(Ag)IV year degree course with an in tuke of 80 students.
2. 1964- S.V.Agricultural College was transferred to A.P Agricultural University which,
was previously affiliated to S.V.University.
3. 1964- The Hostel for Boys was opened.
4. 1968- Introduced two year M.Sc(Ag) in ten major disciplines in a phased way.
Horticulture (1968), Agronomy and Plant Pathology (1970), Extension Education (1976), Genetics and Plant Breeding (1982),Entomology (1982), Economics (1984), Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (1984) and Plant Physiology (1986).
5. 1974- Campus health centre was inaugurated by Dr.DJagannadha Reddy,
vice-Chancellor, S.V.University.
6. 1980- Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme RAWEP was introduced.
7. 1982- Hostel for girls was opened
8. 1982- Regional Library was inaugurated
9. 1986- Mini- Computer centre was installed at the college.
10. 1986- Spotts pavilion was inaugurated.
11.
2000- Millennium Guest Lectures were initiated
12. 2002- II Floor ofn1ain building was opened.
13. 2006- Open air auditorium was reconstructed.

7. INFRASTRUCTURE |

The 12 departmttnts are spread in three floors of the college main building and the department of Agricultural Engineering has a separate building with a workshop facility. The qepartment of Entomology has an insectry and sericulture facility to take up PG research programmes. Some of the departments share the three green houses for practical demonstrations and PG research activities

The College Farm supports the department in conducting practical classes, field experiments and in I maintaining crop museum in its 20. ha la.I]-d, out of which9.24 ha is irrigated and 41 ha is cultivated with rainfed crops. A separate hor1lculture
garden is present in, the entrance to the college which is spread in an area of 9.68 ha. The labs of various departments of the college have sophisticated equipment like PCR, western - blot, automatic weather recorders steady state porometer, IDR, AAS, HPLC, UV spectro - ppotometer, differential oxygen analyzer etc. apart from biotechnology lab in the, department of Genetics and Plant Breeding. |

The Regional library is located in an independent four storied building with air conditioned reading rooms. The library has 62,628 books, 77 foreign and 225 Indian periodicals and CAB abstracts CD's from 1984. A computer lab with internet facility is available in the College. Internet is connected through LAN with 15 nodes to all the departmental computers. |

Indoor and outdoor games and sports in the sports complex, NCC and NSS activities make the students recreated, disciplined and healthy. Students' councelling and placement cell provides employment opportunities, councelling on one-to-one basis for needy students and arranges campus interviews and lectures on personality development. The students receive advise and guidance from the faculty members in the advisory system in which 10-15 students are attached to each faculty member as wards till the completion of their course.

Accommodation to 500 boys and girls is available in three boys and one girls hostels. The campus health centre is working with two medical officers, and takes care not only the health of students and staff of the campus but also teaches meditation and yoga.

The faculty operates five externally funded projects sponsored by organization like, ICAR, APNLBT, DOH, APEDf\, NHB,AP state etc. They have received many meritori4s awards and distinctions. To name a few, State best teachers awards, ANGRAU best teachers awards, A.V.Kaishnaiah Memorial Award, Dr.M.J.Narasimhan Award, Rastriya Ratna award etc. were bagged by the faculty. The College also produced excellent students who have received gold medals, awards, JRFS, SRFS etc. Many students of this College occupied distinguishing positions inside and outside the country. The College adopts a village every year and takes up the activities like, technplogy assessments and refinement, filed diagnoses, training programmes, adoption of latest technologies, seed multiplication etc. in farmers' fields and helps them in their overall development. Thus the college operates to fulfill the mandate of the college; teaching, research and extension.
