EXTENSION EDUCATION INSTITUTE At a Glance 2009-10
The Extension Education Institute, Rajendranagar is a premier and pioneering institute established in September,
1962 and financed by the Ministry of Agriculture (Dept. of Agriculture & Cooperation), Govt. of India, New Delhi
under the administrative control of Acharya N. G.Ranga Agricultural University. The Institute caters to the
training needs of the middle level functionaries of development departments of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
The location of Extension Education Institute in the midst of national and international organisations in the field
of agricultural development like MANAGE, NAARM, NIRD, NPPTI, NRCS, DRR, DOR, CRIDA, NRSA, ICRISAT, Dr. MCR HRD-IAP
and IIIT is unique for utilizing their expertise for effective organization of training programmes besides the
faculty of its own.
- To improve the skills and professional competency of extension functionaries of development departments, SAUs,
private firms and voluntary organisations
- To demonstrate most effective training techniques useful for the personnel working in development departments
- To conduct action research and publish information on extension systems
- To provide consultancy to development agencies
As per the directives of the Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India, a management
committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural
University. The committee meets twice a year to enhance the quality of training programmes and help in effective
functioning of institute.
This institute organizes two types of training programmes viz., On-campus and Off-campus. These programmes are
designed considering the training needs of middle level extension functionaries of client states with a view to
uplift the overall socio-economic status of farming community.
Thirty (30) On-campus workshops are approved for 2009-2010.

- EEI entered a MoU with Agriculture & Food Production, IMAGE, Govt. of Orissa for conducting training programmes on "Operationalisation of ATMA" for all the officers of Directorate of Agriculture & Food Production, Govt. of Orissa.
- Conducting a training programme on "Accounts and service" matters to teaching and non-teaching working in ANGRAU.

Dr. Reddy served the University since 1978 (31 years) in the areas of Field extension, Teaching and Training. He is instrumental for development of under graduate and post graduate curricula for the discipline of Agricultural Extension in the university. Organized different types of Demonstrations and conducted Kisan melas. Guided post graduate students in conducting of impact studies, evaluative studies and adoption studies.
As resource person Dr. Reddy evaluated RAWE programme activities of the university and also Loyola Academy. He also associated in bringing University publications such as Vyavasaya Panchangam and Package of practices of Horticultural Crops. |

He has two PG Diplomas in Journalism and Public Relations. He organized a number of Off-Campus and On-Campus training programs to the middle level Extension Functionaries. He has a wide experience in conducting training programmes in the areas of Mass Media, Communication, Operationalization of ATMA and SREP.
He guided Ph.D. scholars for their research in contemporary areas. He is a prolific writer and has about 40 Research publications in various fields of Agricultural Extension to his credit. He also published three books on Farm Broadcasts, Gender Issues and ANGRAU Technologies. |

National Facilitator, MANAGE. Visited USA, Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong. Guided 12 students leading to M. Sc. and Ph. D. in Extension on contemporary areas.
Organised more than 500 training programs, delivered about 400 lectures as Resource person various organizations including NGOs. Dr. Ratnakar is the recipient of International, National and State level awards including a International Special Recognition award for the outstanding contribution in capacity building of CFC ICRISAT project in Asia and Cash award by the IWMI, Sri Lanka for the best paper presentation on Group managed Irrigation systems in AP in an international conference.

Dr. Jagannadha Raju was formerly the Registrar of Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University and first in-charge Registrar of AP Horticultural University. As the University Administrative Head Organized successfully the 93rd Indian Science Congress and had the distinctive honour in receiving the highest Guests of the University ever,
The President of USA George W. Bush; The President of India Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam; The Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Raju was instrumental in bringing new reforms in the University and also establishing new Horticultural University with as well as new Horticultural and Agricultural Colleges, Polytechnics and Research Stations.
As Assistant Director of Extension, he played a key role in establishing and monitoring the 12 KVKs and 22 DAATT centers of the University. Six years worked as Training organizer and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and had trained more than 6900 farmers. Worked for Farmer to farmer Extension and successfully implemented SRI technique and initiated seed village concept in 2001 in three mandals. He visited Japan and Malaysia and attended world Rice Conference 2004. |

Having more than 24 years of experience in Teaching, Training, Research and Extension. Guided facilitators and monitored Farmer Field Schools (FFS) on cotton, vegetables and paddy in A.P. and ICM paddy in Chattisgarh CTDP supported by IFAD and sugarcane TOF at RARS, Anakapalle supported by WHO.
She is having expertise in conducting monitoring and evaluation of Rural Development Programmes sponsored by GOI and well experienced in management of programmes connected with Agricultural Extension, Rural Development and also worked for formation and Strengthening of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). She also handled U.G., P.G and Ph.D. courses for six years besides guiding research scholars and organizing regular training programmes at EEI. She has number of International and national publications to her credit apart from a book on Biotechnology for sustainable agriculture and a chapter in international policy series of an FAO publication.

She entered into the University services in 1993 as Assistant Extension Specialist in the faculty of Agriculture and during the span of fifteen years she rendered her services in the fields of extension(1993-99), research (2000-01), teaching (2001-06) and training (2006 to date) respectively.
Her experience with farmers and grass root functionaries at field level where she worked close with the farming community and coordinated several activities related to the dissemination of need based technologies through rythu sadassus, on farm trials, RAWEP, field days, farmer days, kisan melas etc., conducted need based training programmes which contributed to enhance her services as a good trainer.

Dr. Veni, joined ANGRAU as Assistant Professor at SV Agricultural College, Tirupati in 1998 and taught UG and PG students in Agricultural Extension. As a Major advisor she guided PG students in extension education. Later she joined EEI during 2000 and taught Ph.D. students in agricultural extension.
She has vast experience in organizing on and off-campus training programmes for the officers of development departments of southern states including Odisha in different areas viz., Communication, Management, Gender, HRD, Personality development, Training management etc. As Senior Scientist at Farmers Call Centre, ANGRAU she served the farming community by answering quarries on their field problems. Presently she is an Associate Professor at Extension Education Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad having a total experience of 11 years. |

Dr. Reddy, has a good academic career and has more than 10 years of experience in teaching UG and PG Students in Agricultural Extension. Dr. Reddy was awarded Bapatla Agricultural College Silver Jubilee Gold medal in Ph.D. As a major Advisor, he has guided 16 Post Graduate students in Agricultural Extension.
Dr. Reddy has Published 35 Research Papers in reputed academic and Professional journals and has also edited two books. As a training director, he organized a large number of Pedagogy and Orientation and Refresher trainings for the faculty of ANGRAU. Dr. Reddy has trained a number of middle level extension functionaries in core extension management and communication skills at EEI. Dr. Bhagya Lakshmi has excellent academic career with Two Gold Medals from ANGRAU for obtaining highest Overall grade point in post graduation. She worked as district resource person for District Rural Development agency, Srikakulam for Institutionalisation of Self Help Groups.
Later she also worked with District Water Management Agency (DWMA) and served as a Course Director for District Livelihood Resource Center (DLRC) and conducted several capacity building activities for livelihood enhancement of the people in watershed areas. In 2006 she joined in the ANGRAU as subject matter specialist (Home Science) in Krishi Vigyankendra, Amadalavalasa in 2006 and conducted various vocational trainings, demonstrations and other extension activities, later, in 2008 she joined EEI as Asst. Professor and involved in conducting training programmes to the development officers of client states. |

Dr. Purnima, has a good academic conduct with ICARJRF for M.Sc. (Ag.) and highest OGPA for Doctorate from Extension Education Institute, ANGRAU, Rajendranagar. She has joined the University in September, 2007 and worked for a brief period at KVK, Rastakuntabai, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.
During, her work period at KVK as Subject Matter Specialist (Extension), she has organized a number of need based training programmes for farmers, women and rural youth in different spheres and also participated in other field activities like FLDs, OFTs and Diagnostic field visits. Later as Asst. Professor at EEI she is presently engaged in training middle level extension officers of client states. Besides training, she is also involved in Impact and Evaluation studies of various schemes and programmes of state and centre, conducted by EEI. |

The Institute publishes a quarterly newsletter covering highlights of various activities viz., training programmes, follow up visits
- Latest extension issues, student research and special events.
- Published a training manual on "Communication Skills".
A film on Extension Education Institute activities was developed.
The Institute is well equipped with two hostels, centralized air conditioned seminar hall and training hall, computer lab etc.
The programme is fully residential and participants are expected to stay in EEI hostels. The participants are provided free boarding and lodging facilities.
