Historical Background :
|
Prior to starting of Agricultural College, the main campus of this college was under the control of Department of Animal Husbandry, GoAP. As per the Govt order, the Animal Husbandry department handed over an area of 200 acres with existing infrastructure which was consisting of small office building and few old cattle sheds and stores for starting Agricultural College on 22.08.1989. Similarly the Dept. of Horticulture GoAP handed over an area of 100 acres of shrub jungle adjacent to the main campus on western side and also an area of 30 acres of Horticultural garden on the other side of the road on 13.09.1989.

AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE MAIN BUILDING
|
Subsequently an area of 50 acres was transferred back to Dept. of Horticulture GoAP as per University orders for establishment of Coconut Seed Garden on 20.04.1991. At present the area of Agricultural College, Aswaraopet is 224.08 area and that of the Horticultural Garden attached to the College is 30 acres.

Degree Programmes Offered : |
Since inception of the College in 1989 a four years B.Sc. (Ag) degree programme with annual intake of 30 students was started subsequently the intake of students was increased to 55 per year. During the academic year 2002-03. The B.Sc. (Ag) admission was stopped with the introduction of four years B.Sc. (Hort.) degree programme with annual intake of 20 students keeping in view the potential of this area for growing Horticultural Crops. From the academic year 2004 the intake of B.Sc. (Hort.) was increased from 20 to 30. The last batch of B.Sc. (Ag) students completed their degree during August,2005 and the first batch of B.Sc. (Hort.) came out on 31st July, 2006. So far 322 students passed out B.Sc. (Ag) degree while 07 students (all in 1st division) B.Sc. (Hort.) degree from this College.

II. Equipments :
|
All the department laboratories are fully equipped with required equipments needed for students’ Practicals and classroom teaching. All the classrooms are having OHP, slide projector and three classrooms are equipped with LCD Projector.
Important lab equipments including BOD incubators (3 Nos.) and Photo Micrometry (1 No.), Auto Claves (2 Nos.), Seed Germination Unit, Automatic Weather Station, Infrared Thermometer, Laminar flow chamber, Micro Irrigation System with accessories, Mechanical Paddy Harvester, All Crop Threshers, Fruit Preservation Equipment, Green House, Shade Nets, Spectro Photometer and Ultra Centrifuge etc.

Hostel Facilities :
|
The College is having two Hostels viz., Kinnera and Sabari accommodating 100 boys and 45 girls with separate dining, reading, solar water heating system. Continuous power supply through generator has been ensured to the students both for the hostels and classrooms.

The Library is recently equipped with the 40 periodicals, 40 Indian Journals, 2 Foreign Journals, 4,550 College books including 1000 SC, ST book scheme, 95 CD ROMs related well equipped digital Xerox machine, Internet facility in 3 systems, and computer priority. The books loaded in Libsus software system and arranged in subject wise open accession system. All these facilities meet the needs of the students in this College.

The Department of Statistics & Mathematics is maintaining a sophisticated computer lab with 15 upgraded systems. The students are trained in using the latest MS Office in addition to the regular academic classes.
Medical Facilities :
A separate ‘Health Clinic’ in the College premises was started by providing required hospital needs of the students and staff from 5 PM to 6 PM. Under emergency situations the students were taken to hospital by utilizing the ambulance facility.
Plant Health Clinic and Model Class Room :
Dept. of Agril. Extension is maintaining the Model Class Room having all the facilities like OHP, slide projector and LCD Projector with systems for creating better learning situation to the under graduate students.
Plant Health Clinic helps to the students understanding of different crop production technologies , pests and diseases symptoms and supply coloured diagnostic bulletins of different crops on the basis of payment to farmers and students. Different crop production technologies were displayed in the form of charts, blowups, laminations, modals, and specimen samples.

Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS) :
All the departments in the college were provided with the internet facility under ARIS.
Placement Cell :
The college is running a placement cell and the Asst. Professor, Dept. of Statistics & Mathematics is providing guidance to the outgoing students of B.Sc. (Hort.) for employment and higher studies.
The students of this College are bestowing their utmost interest in studies and securing higher OGPA. Their performance in entrance tests at University and National Level is very good.
Mr. P. Nagi Reddy of 1990 batch was selected for IPS and now working as SP of Srikakulam District. Mr. M.V. Venkata Ramana of 1990 batch is serving in Canada as member of Scientific Faculty. Mr. B. Tagore Varma of 1991 batch was selected under Group-I services of A.P. and posted as Depot Manager, in APSRTC. A good number of the students of this College were selected as Asst. Professors in Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University.
Few products of this College are working as Rural Development Officers in various nationalized banks, Agriculture Officers in the State Department of Agriculture and several other students are working in the Seed Production Companies and Agricultural Inputs Companies in various capacities.
