29.12.1999 Foundation stone for the Agricultural polytechnic  was laid on 5.2.2001 by Sri. Vadde Shobhanadreeswara Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in the presence of Sri SBPBK Satyanarayana Rao, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture, Govt. of India, Sri Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, MLA, Sri Ganta Sreenivasa Rao, Member of Parliament, Dr. I.V.Subba Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. A. Padma Raju, Director of Research, Dr. P.Raghavulu, Dean of Agriculture, ANGRAU and other dignitaries.

Objective
To train rural youth so that their services can be utilized in dissemination of technology to the farmers in an easily understandable manner.
 
 
The trained rural youth serve as grass root level functionaries in various government departments and other agencies involved in agriculture / animal husbandry / rural development.
 
 
To train rural youth in agriculture and veterinary , who in turn can utilize the training in implementing improved technologies in their fields , besides generating self employment. and gaining employment to serve in the agro-based industries.
 

Courses offered :

 
Agriculture, Veterinary, Horticulture and rural development are covered in the diploma in agriculture in four semesters, each semester consisting of not less than 21 weeks equivalent to 100 instructional days.  A total number of 23 courses are offered and each course has three theory and one practical classes in a week. Facilities available :

 
Hostel :
 
The students are accommodated on temporary basis in the farm guest houses, with all the basic facilities.  Girls are provided separate accommodation in two vacant quarters in the farm, nearer to the scientists quarters  keeping in view the security of the girls.  A private contractor is engaged for supply of food to the inmates of the hostel on monthly contract basis.  The university and state government have been requested to allot funds for construction of permanent buildings for the college.  The District Collector, Visakhapatnam was generous in  sanctioning an amount of Rs. one lakh for improving the basic amenities for the students of agricultural polytechnic. Presently  girls hostel was constructed with the funds provided by Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University.
 
 
Class rooms :
 
The classes are being taken up in two rooms in one of the existing buildings of the research station .

Laboratories  :
 
The existing laboratories of the research station have been equipped with the latest equipment to take up practical classes.
 
   
   
   
 
Students’ plots :
 

Students are allotted plots for raising cereals , pulses , oil seed crops and vegetables  to gain practical knowledge in crop production and protection technologies.Students are also taken to farmers’ fields to have an insight of the farmers’ practices.

Medical:
 

One medical doctor is engaged  with an honorarium of Rs. 6000/- per month to look after the health needs of the students.

 
Transport facility :
 
A 30 seater  mini bus has been provided by the university to take the students on educational tours / practical classes.
 
 
Placement Cell :
 
Placement cell is established to guide the students about the employment opportunities . Nearly 80% of the diploma holders, since establishment of the college, have been employed in various agro-based industries through on and off-campus interviews.

NSS Programme:
 
NSS activities are taken up under the supervision of NSS Programme officer, in the adopted village. Days of national importance are being celebrated.  The NSS volunteers are involved in some of the programmes like animal health camps; AIDS awareness camps blood donation camps etc. Rallies are organized in the town on every occasion to create awareness about the importance of the day

Physical education:

 

A  Physical Director is engaged with a consolidated pay of Rs. 6000/- per month to train the students in different sports and games besides physical exercises. The students under the guidance and supervision of the Physical Director are undergoing rigorous physical exercises and games both in the early morning and evening.  The students are now in a position to participate in intercollegiate and inter university sports and games events.  In the second Inter collegiate games sports and literary competitions for Agricultural Polytechnic students held at Agricultural Polytechnic, Palem on 28th – 30th April, 2004, our students got prizes.  Kumari B. Krishna Veni was adjudged as individual Champion among girls students.

Sri M. Veeraih Choudhari, Member Board of Management, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, visited Campus 19-11-2004.
   
Sri N. Raghu Veera Reddy, Hon’ ble Minister of Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Sri Konathala Rama Krishna, Hon’ble Minister of Commercial Taxes, Government of Andhra Pradesh,  visited  Agricultural Polytechnic, Anakapalle on 09-01-2005 and appreciated the performance of students of Agricultural Polytechnic in transfer of technologies to the farmers.  Impressed with performance of students of Agricultural Polytechnic, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture has promised to provide amenities like college bus and girls Hostel.  He also assured that the request of the students of Agricultural Polytechnic for admission into B. Sc (Ag.) would be considered favorably.
   
   
 
   

Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh Visited Regional Agricultural Research Station, Anakapalle and planted a mango sapling in the campus.

   

College day celebrations :  Every year College day  has been celebrated  and  on that occasion a  College Magazine “Simhadri “ has been released with the articles from students and scientists. so far four magazines have been released. Cultural programmes are conducted with the active participation of the students.
