The College has adopted 2 villages i.e. Chandanagar and chemically in and around located about 20 kms. Away from the college as a part of Village Adoption programme to transfer the proven technology to the farmers.  A Team of scientists from Agronomy, Horticulture, Pathology, Entomology, and Agricultural Economics will be visiting to the villages on every Saturday in a month to interact with the farmers and to get the feed back of the problems of the farmers and advise the farmers to adopt proper management practices for better crop production.

2.2 Student-Teacher ratio:

            The total number of teachers working in the College is 105 and total number of students at present studying in the College is 1245 and the teacher-student ratio is 1:12.
           
In addition, the students from Sri Lanka, Yemen, Ethiopia, Africa, and Afghanistan numbering 10 are pursuing their studies for PG degree programme.   Besides, the teachers are also having the additional responsibilities of Wardens, UG & PG Academic In-charge, OISA, NCC, NSS Programme Officers, Officer In-charge – Placement Cell etc. Further the teachers are also guiding M. Sc. and Ph. D students

2.3 Teaching Methodology:

The College is one of the premier institutes imparting the knowledge in the field of agriculture to the students who are pursuing their Graduation.  Since agricultural subjects mostly being practically oriented, the teaching involves use of practical components like specimens of different crops, pests, diseases, diagrams of certain physiological process etc.   Hence, for effective teaching, the teachers are mostly using the following Audio-visual equipment besides making use of chalk boards provided in the classrooms.

1. OHP for depicting the transparencies
2. Slide Projector for depicting the slides
3. LCD with computers to make use of the CD, Floppy for power point presentations
4. Charts and live specimens etc.

In courses dealing with study of the crop production and crop protection mostly the students are being allotted a plot size 30 Sq. mats to raise the crop to study all the aspects of production and protection of crops in the field.

In certain courses the teachers are taking the students to some of the Research Stations, Industries, Depending upon the practical exercises in a particular course.

2.4 Industrial Practical exposure:

As a part of practical components, the students will be taken to various industries as indicated below to strengthen their knowledge and to improve their practical skills.

The students are being taken to Biotech companies like Gayatri Agri. Biotech, Shivashakti Bio-plant, Sree biotech, Omkar Agri-biotech etc. for practical exposure.
At PG level, the students are not only being exposed to these industries but also taken to some of the National Research Centres like ICRISAT, CRIDA, DRR, DOR  to make them aware of the research work  going on in different research centers.   Besides, the students are also being exposed to certain companies dealing with the entrepreneurial ship like MANAGE, NAARM, NIRD and other private entrepreneurial companies. The students are also being exposed to some of the companies dealing with the agricultural equipment and tools like tractors, farm machinery companies like Laxmi Sai Tractors, Agro industries etc.

The faculty of the College is handling good number of adhoc research projects funded by the reputed organizations.

3.0 Care of students.

3.1 Subsidized fee for the poor students

The College is providing reimbursement of tuition fee at UG level especially for SC & ST students.
The number of students getting concession towards tuition fee are 90 each year and total 360 for 4 years.

3.2 Co-curricular activities

The students of this College have actively participated in all co-curricular activities and in the Inter Collegiate University level competitions and won many prizes and brought laurels to the College.

The following co-curricular activities are mostly being suggested / recommended for student’s participation to improve their physical and mental ability.  Many outdoor and indoor game facilities are available at the College in Sports Complex.   The students of the College are participated in Inter Collegiate Games& Sports Meet and also in All India Inter Agricultural Universities Meet in the following games and sports.

The students are regularly participating in the RD Parade competitions as part of the NCC activity and won the Gold Medal thrice in succession.

The students of this College are mostly involved in most of the NSS activities like Blood donation, Aids awareness camp, Tree Plantation programme, Clean and Green programme and Youth Festival programmes besides NSS special Camps for 10 days as part of the RAWE Programme.

The NSS Unit of this College judged as one of the best NSS Unit and faculty members of this College have also won the NSS Programme Officer award.

Scholarship facility:

The students of this College have the facility of getting the scholarship from the Social Welfare Department and BC welfare at UG level.  The total number of scholarship provided by the College under the various categories is:

Besides above scholarships, during the RAWE Programme all the final year students are being paid stipend of Rs.1500/- per month for a period of 5 months.  
At PG level, the M.Sc.(Ag) & Ph.D students are being paid stipend @Rs.1800/- and Rs.2000/- respectively per month for the period of study i.e. 2 and 3 years respectively.   The number of students getting the stipend are 31,152 and 36 for M.Sc.(Ag) I, II and Ph.D respectively
Besides, the students were also getting the Meritorious Scholarships like Gromor – 1, ICCR – 1 ICAR JRF – 15 besides National Merit Scholarship – 31

4.0 Admission Procedures

4.1 Selection through Competitive examinations

At UG level, the candidates into B. Sc. (Ag), B.Sc. (Hort.) and B. Sc. (CA&BM) are being selected based on rank obtained in Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) which will be conducted by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh every year.   Besides ICAR, Govt. of India also conducts common entrance for admission to the students of outside States annually and 15% of seats are being earmarked to the students coming from the States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Manipur etc.

At PG level, the University conducts a common entrance test for all PG Programmes and the students are selected based on the ranks obtained.  The Ph. D Fresh students are being selected through a Common Entrance Test followed by based on Interview performance.   While the Ph.D. In-service candidates are being selected based on the interview performance only which will be organized by the University.

In addition some additional seats are being earmarked for the students coming from outside the country like Sri Lanka, Africa, Ethiopia, Myannmar, Afghanisthan etc. both in M. Sc.(Ag) & Ph. D level.

The candidates seeking admission into Ph. D programmes, the interviews are being conducted by the University and the names of the selected candidates will be sent to the College.

4.3 Cut off marks:

At UG level, based on the ranks obtained and number of students available the candidates are being selected.

At PG level especially for M. Sc. (Ag) and Ph. D, the minimum pass marks are 50%

5.2 Sports Facility

The College has well established Sports Complex with spacious area and different Courts to play outdoor games like  Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Basket ball, Bal badminton, Tennicoit.   The Sports Complex also has the excellent provision for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess, Carroms and Shuttle badminton.   Sufficient space is also available for sports events.

5.3 Library

University Central Library is located within the vicinity of the College.  Hence, Library separately for College is not being maintained.   However, Departments maintains Departmental Library for the benefit of PG students.  All the relevant books, journals, thesis are being arranged in each department library.   Some times based on the need C. D’s are also being maintained by each department.

5. 4 High Speed internet

The College has VAN & LAN facility.  All the Departments are connected with Internet and each Department Head is being provided with a Computer, Printer and LCD etc.

There are five Hostels functioning under the College to provide boarding and lodging facility for the students of the College.  The following are the details of the Hostels.

5.6 Conveyance facility for the students

The College being premier Institute of the University where many UG & PG programmes are being run, sufficient number of vehicles have been provided by the University.  The students of all the degree programmes being taken to the field visits, visit to the industries, Central Institutes as a part of the practical component of each course and the buses are provided to the teacher concerned based on the indent.   Similarly to bring External Examiner to conduct viva-voce examination of PG students, Jeeps will be provided based on the indent.  The number of vehicles available is as follows:

Buses- Big   - 50  seater capacity        -          3 Nos.
            Bus  -     Mini -  25 seater capacity    - 1 No.
            Jeeps-                 10 seater capacity - 3 Nos.

            Besides, the College is connected to all routes from the city in which buses will run regularly for every 10-15 minutes.

A Central Canteen maintained by the University is located in the College campus and the students are making use of the facility.   Sports Complex provide the other recreation facility for the students for tread mill walking, performing Gym and to play games and sports.   All the Hostels are provided with TV and reading room which provides recreation to the students.   One big University Auditorium with a capacity of 1500 is located in the College campus and sometimes for the benefit of the students some Movies of National importance are being played.

The Placement Cell in the college is functioning effectively ever since its inception for the benefit of the students.   During the year under report many Companies, Banks, Industries etc are requesting the College for recruitment of the Graduates as Probationary Officers, Field Officers, Marketing Managers etc.  The Placement cell provides the opportunity for the students by inviting all the companies to recruit the students by conducting Campus interviews.   Accordingly, the Campus interviews were arranged in the College for the following Companies.   The following companies recruited the students during the year 2006 as indicated below:

Some of Universities from abroad like Writtle College, University of Essex, University of Western Australia and University of Florida have visited the College and requested for addressing the students to indicate the avenues in their Universities.   Accordingly, the Placement Cell of the College has made arrangements for lecture to be delivered by the faculty of each University.   Some students took the advantage the lecture and joined the Writtle College, University Essex.   Similarly some students are now trying to take admission in some of the Universities.

6.3. Average Salary

Depending on the company and based on post and nature of duty each company bank paying Rs.1.00 lakh to Rs.2.00 lakhs per annum.   However, based on the performance of the students it was informed that there is a possibility of enhancing the salary in near future to Rs.4.00 – 5.00 lakhs per annum.
            Thus the College is excelling in all spheres of Academic, Research and Extension Activities steadily and will emerge as “Centre of Excellence” in near future to provide quality of Education not only to the students of State but also the Country as well.
